Mark and Jane's open-plan kitchen gets light from both ends, so we kept the cabinetry pale and let solid oak worktops bring the warmth. The island has a hob, seating and an open end for trays and boards.
Alongside the kitchen we built a painted dresser with open shelves, and a low sideboard with a log store underneath for the stove – little touches that make the whole room hang together.
